Mobile Websites vs. Responsive Designed Websites
What’s the difference between a mobile website and a responsive designed website? This is one of the most common questions I get from business owners and marketers when discussing their website redesign or inbound marketing plans. In today’s video you’ll know how mobile websites and responsive websites differ, and which option is ideal for most businesses (spoiler: it’s responsive design!). What is a Mobile Website? A mobile website is a separate version of your desktop website and it is designed to be used exclusively on smartphone devices. Typically, the mobile version includes a limited number of the many pages that are displayed on your desktop version. However, it will include a link to your full desktop website so that visitors have the option to find additional information. When a smartphone user comes to your website, an “auto-detect” will recognize the device they’re using and then send that visitor to the mobile version (for example, “m.yourdomainname.com,” rather than “www.yourdomainname.com”). Since a mobile website is a condensed version of your main desktop site, it’s not very expensive to build for most businesses, and is a sufficient short-term solution if you don’t have the budget for a responsive design. What is a Responsive Designed Website? A responsive designed website is a website designed for use on desktops, tablets and smartphones. Rather than creating a separate version of your website exclusively for smartphone visitors (as is the case with a mobile website), the content on a responsive website adjusts to fit the screen dimensions of your visitors’ browsing device. Think of it as having one website for many different devices. The benefits of responsive design cannot be overlooked. For starters, a responsive website is ideal for SEO because all of your webpages live on a single domain (i.e. the “www.” version). Moreover, Google recommends using responsive design when building mobile-friendly websites. Another benefit of responsive design is that it provides a consistent brand experience across devices. Whether a potential customer is visiting your site from her desktop or her smartphone, the color scheme, calls-to-action, and overall content will be displayed similarly. No matter which one you refer too, you have to admit that a mobile friendly website is a must today. With over 70% of the total internet usage being directed by mobile devices, it is foolish to ignore it. Call Warehouse Multimedia today to take care of that problem and make your website a mobile powerhouse.
